Legal Information

Terms & Conditions

These terms govern your use of our website and the basis on which Company Defender Advisory Ltd provides its services.

Last updated: October 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of the Company Defender Advisory Ltd website and the basis on which we provide our services. By using our website you accept these terms.

Company Defender Advisory Ltd is registered in England and Wales under company number 17298091 and is registered for VAT under number 524301239. Our business address is 66 Paul Street, London.

Where we agree an engagement letter or letter of engagement with you, that document takes precedence over these terms in relation to the services it covers.

2. Information on this website

The content on this website is provided for general information only. It is not legal, tax or accounting advice, and it should not be relied upon as a substitute for advice on your own circumstances.

You should take advice before acting, or deciding not to act, on any matter. We do not accept liability for loss arising from reliance on general content published on this website.

3. No engagement until confirmed in writing

Sending an enquiry, submitting an online form, or speaking with a member of our team does not create an adviser and client relationship.

A client relationship begins only once we have confirmed in writing that we are instructed, completed our conflict checks, and you have agreed our fees.

4. Identity checks and anti-money laundering

Before acting we are required to verify your identity and, where relevant, that of your company and its directors. We may also carry out conflict, sanctions and adverse media checks.

We may be unable to act, or may have to stop acting, if these checks cannot be completed satisfactorily.

5. Fees and charges

Our standard rates are £295 per hour plus VAT for solicitors and legal executives, and £175 per hour plus VAT for case managers, unless a fixed fee or written estimate is agreed with you.

Time is recorded in units and charged in accordance with our engagement letter. We may ask for payment on account before work starts or at stages of a matter. Disbursements, court fees and third-party costs are payable in addition to our fees.

Invoices are payable within the period stated on the invoice, unless we agree otherwise in writing. We may charge interest on overdue amounts in accordance with our engagement letter.

6. Your responsibilities

You agree to provide complete and accurate information and documents promptly, to tell us if anything changes, and to respond to our requests for instructions or information.

We are not responsible for losses caused by incomplete or inaccurate instructions, or by delays in providing information or documents we need.

7. Confidentiality

We treat your information as confidential and will not disclose it except where you authorise us to, where we are required to by law or regulation, or where disclosure is necessary to progress your matter - for example to a court, barrister, expert, insolvency practitioner or the other side.

8. Cancellation and ending our instructions

Where you instruct us at a distance as a consumer, you normally have 14 days to cancel. If you ask us to begin work within that period, you agree to pay for the work carried out up to the point you cancel.

You may end our instructions at any time by telling us in writing. You remain responsible for our fees and any costs incurred up to that date. Fees already earned for work carried out are not refundable. We may also stop acting where we are required to, or where there is a conflict of interest or unpaid fees.

9. Our liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Subject to that, our total liability for any claim arising out of or in connection with our services or this website is limited to the fees we have charged you in the matter in which the claim arises, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or anticipated savings.

10. Website use and intellectual property

The content, design, text and branding of this website belong to Company Defender Advisory Ltd and may not be copied, reproduced or redistributed without our written permission.

You must not use the website in any way that is unlawful, that interferes with its operation, or that attempts to gain unauthorised access to any part of it or to information held by us.

11. Links to other websites

This website may link to third-party websites and resources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices.

12. Complaints

If you are unhappy with our service, please raise it with the person handling your matter in the first instance, or write to us at info@companydefender.co.uk.

We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it within eight weeks. If we cannot resolve it, or you remain dissatisfied, you may have the right to refer the matter to the Legal Ombudsman, or to our professional regulator in respect of conduct matters, where the firm is regulated by that body in relation to your matter.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them, unless a different jurisdiction is agreed in your engagement letter.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page applies from the date shown at the top of the page.
